Dr. Jesse Owen Hearns-Branaman is an Associate Professor and the Acting Programme Director of Media and Communication Studies at UIC. He holds a PhD from the University of Leeds, an MA in International Communication Studies from the University of Nottingham, and a BA in Radio and Television from San Francisco State University. He has taught communication, media, and journalism studies at the University of Sheffield, University of Leeds, and Leeds Beckett University in the UK, Zhejiang Wanli University and the University of Nottingham in China, and the National Institute of Development Administration in Thailand. His research interests include post-structuralism, ideology, critical linguistics, political economy of news, comparative journalism, and epistemological theory. He has published two books, Journalism and the Philosophy of Truth: Beyond Objectivity and Balance (Routledge: 2016), and The Political Economy of News in China: Manufacturing Harmony (Lexington: 2015).

Dr. Edgar Yuen is an Associate Professor in Media and Communication Studies. He holds a PhD from Peking University, P.R. China and a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) from Chinese University of Hong Kong. Dr. Yuen has vast industry experience in writing and editing news for Hong Kong newspapers. He continues to write columns for Hong Kong newspapers and magazines and actively contributes to the College's corporate communications. Dr. Yuen's areas of interest are news writing and reporting, commentary writing, and media ethics.

Dr Vincent Lam  is an Assistant Professor in Media and Communication Studies. He holds a degree of Doctor of Business and Administration from University of Newcastle, MA from the University of Leeds and a BA from University of London, United Kingdom. Lam has worked in various financial editorial positions in China Daily, Hong Kong Standard, SCMP, Phoenix TV, Financial Times Group.

In addition, he is a financial M&A due diligence specialist working for Kroll with professional qualifications including US Certified Fraud Examiner, US Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist, and HKSI certificates in securities, derivatives and asset management.

Fee 小




Dr. Fee-Alexandra Haase is an Associate Professor in Media and Communication Studies at UIC. She holds both a PhD degree from the University of Tübingen and a Masters degree from the University of Tübingen in Germany. Dr. Haase has worked as media professional, editor, and translator and taught at international universities journalism, media, and communications as well as related fields of the humanities in communications, linguistics, and cultural studies in South Korea, the USA, Lebanon, Cyprus, and Oman. Dr. Haase's areas of interest is journalism and its historical relation to and tradition within the areas of rhetoric and communication as well as cultural and comparative studies.

Jungmo 小


Dr. Jungmo Youn is a Lecturer in Media and Communication Studies. He holds a PhD in media and communications from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), an MA  and BA in Communication and cultural studies from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, South Korea.
Dr. Youn has worked as a researcher in Institute of Media Communication in Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and conducted archival research in National Institute of Japanese Literature in Tokyo, Japan. His research interests include media history, critical cultural studies and cultural theories, East Asian modernity and cultural mediation.

Dr. Qidong Yun is Associate Professor in Media and Communication Studies. He holds a PhD from Loughborough University, a Graduate Certificate in Statistics (with Distinction) from Sheffield University, an MA (with Distinction) in Publishing from Oxford Brookes University and a BA from Wuhan University. He has experience in publishing industry, and had taught communication and publishing courses at Shantou University before joining UIC. His research interests include political economy of media, new media studies and digital publishing. His monograph, China's Publishing Industry: from Mao to the Market, was published by Elsevier in 2018.

Mona 小


Mona  Ma holds  a bachelor degree in film literature at Beijing Normal University (Zhuhai)and a master degree in Chinese Literature  from the University of Macau. Her areas of interest  are studies of narrative ethics in film literature, adaptation comparative research between novels and films and humanistic social literature in Chinese novels.
