On December 1, 2017 a group of nineteen GIR first and second year students were invited by Ms. Sherry Xu, Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSER) Assistant Manager at Flex, a “Fortune500” multinational corporation with a large production facility in Zhuhai, China, to tour the facilities and meet with senior management.

Accompanied by GIR staff members Ms Emmy Li Hui and Elizabeth Rodewald, the students attended a brief lecture by Ms. Micky Zhao, Environment, Health & Safety Manager, who shared how the company strives to be environmentally responsible, in particular through the installment of solar panels on the roofs of various company buildings and the careful disposal of hazardous materials that have the potential to pollute the nearby environment.

During the visit students also toured one of the many workshops where electronic components are manufactured and were shown by Mr. Ethan Xiang,  Computer Numerical Control Manager, various designs the company has designed and produced  for popular brands, like Swarovski crystal phone cases, the Xbox, and various home printers.

Toward the end of the visit, Mr. Jason Lo, Design & Engineering Manager at the Mechanical Technology Center, then showed the students the exclusive models of shared bicycles that the company produces at their Doumen factory, solely for their employees to get around their 3,500km2 campus.
