Aims & Objectives 
This introductory course in Korean aims to introduce the basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. We will learn a practical vocabulary and the oral use of the language along with proper use of grammar and cultural information.

Course Intended Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students are expected to:

  • Understand questions and commands in basic Korean
  • Interact orally in basic Korean, Understand basic Korean written documents
  • Write short descriptive paragraphs
  • Assimilate the basic Korean pattern of syntax structures

 

Korean 1 (GE)

Year 2, 3, 4 students in UIC

Aims & Objectives

Only Students who finished Korean 1

Aims & Objectives 
This course in Korean2 aims to introduce the basic patterns like asking simple questions and answering in speaking, reading and writing with various teaching approaches. They also are able to use some new grammas in short sentences. They will learn a practical words and the oral use of the language along with proper use of cultural background.

Course Intended Learning outcomes 
At the end of the course, students are expected to:

  • Apply a simple, daily conversation in Korean
  • Carry out to understand and write materials in Korean
  • Understand a knowledge of Korean grammars and more detail pronunciations

 

Korean 3 

Students who had already taken Korean 2

Aims & Objectives 
The course aims to develop students' comprehension and production ability of Korean language. Therefore, it focuses on language using for being able to use in the real life. Students will learn more expressions that are commonly used in Korea and practice what they learned in class through diverse and proper activities.

Course Intended Learning outcomes 
At the end of the course, students are expected to:

  • Have a clear and broad understanding of Korea
  • Make an intermediate level conversation properly with native Korean speakers in various situations
  • Understand reading articles and write short articles using grammar patterns and expressions of this level by Korean

 

Korean 4 

Only Students who finished Korean 3

Aims & Objectives 

  • Enabling students to grasp the main ideas of reading passages, as well expanding their vocabulary
  • Introducing new grammatical/language points in context
  • Practicing and developing writing process that requires generating ideas, organizing, drafting, revising, re-drafting.
  • Practicing and correcting/improving Korean pronunciation through reading, listening and speaking activities

Course Intended Learning outcomes 
At the end of the course, students are expected to:

  • Apply the different concepts of Korean grammar in formal writing compositions
  • Write essays and reports in an organized, clear and detailed manner
  • Understand main points, new vocabulary words and phrases from reading articles and listening materials/ references

 

Korean Culture

All students in UIC

Aims & Objectives 

  • To understand Korean modern society and culture through introduction from tradition to modern Korean culture
  • To understand Korean's daily life and consciousness and know how they have changed in the dynamic society
  • To understand Korean people and have a comparison point of view between Chinese culture and Korean culture

Course Intended Learning outcomes

  • To attain the knowledge of Korean society, culture and Korean people's lifestyle and understand the way that Korean people behave and think
  • To have ideas about various aspects of Korean culture and give opinions why and how they are by comparing student's own culture
  • To broaden view on other cultures and people as a member of global community
